I Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV) says this: “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
What a wonderful revelation to know that God lives within His people!! With this knowledge, the possibilities are endless, right? Well, guess what? If we do not take care of our bodies, we are expecting our God to live in a poorly maintained house!
Focusing on the care of our bodies requires we consider the health of our souls and spirits as well. We must be vigilant to watch for signs of wear and tear on our inner being as well as our outer selves. With that thought in mind, what have you done today to take care of the temple of God that you have been entrusted with?
Eating the right foods and getting enough exercise is the mantra that every media outlet suggests. However, managing our stress is crucial from the time we wake up. Many mornings we just jump out of bed and get right into our daily routine of getting things done. We often push our bodies to the limit because we do not consider how precious we are to God. We are more focused on the tasks we need to accomplish than the fact that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” in the sight of God. Self-care is not only important…it is crucial!
Take time to wake up slowly and stretch before you get out of bed. Drink at least 8 ounces of water when you first get up. Give yourself time to meditate or pray before you face the world. Think about yourself and the things you have to be grateful for as you shower or brush your teeth. Be kind enough to yourself to take the time to moisturize your skin. Plan your day, so you are not rushing from the time you open your eyes. Your life is too important to hurry through it. Remember who you are and Who lives inside of you. Be blessed!
